After predicting that City will defend their European crown and go on to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the 2023-24 final, Carragher referenced the dark cloud hanging over all their success in the Pep Guardiola era. The former Liverpool defender called City "the team with 115 charges" on live television, leading to a "wow" reaction from Micah Richards.

City were charged with breaching Premier League financial rules 115 times over a nine-year period back in February 2023. The club deny any wrongdoing but it remains an asterisk next to their current dominance. No firm date for a hearing has been announced yet, but it has been reported that City will stand trial this autumn.
