Silva has performed various roles in multiple positions since joining City in 2017, but Guardiola surprised everyone when he started the Portuguese star at left-back against Arsenal last season. City won that game 3-1 and went on to win the Premier League title, but Silva believes his manager's selection was a huge risk.

In an interview with Portuguese publication , he said: "The craziest thing he asked me to do was probably play on the wing at the Emirates against Saka.It wasn't easy and it was a game of a lot of pressure because we were behind them and if we lost or drew this game we would be out of the fight for the Premier League.
"Having to play that game against one of the best wingers in the league was the moment I will remember forever in my career. And I loved it, I loved it.In the end it was tough, but it was a great challenge, which I loved."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
City went into their February meeting with Arsenal three points behind Mikel Arteta's side having played one game more. With John Stones injured, Guardiola trusted Silva to perform the 'Stones' role of stepping into midfield from defence when City had possession. A 3-1 win sent City top of the table on goal difference, and by the end of the season they had won a historic treble.
